Overcoming Leukemia: A Young Girl's Journey of Resilience and Hope at Lu Daopei Hospital
In November 2016, 11-year-old Wenwen (alias) was diagnosed with acute T-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, a diagnosis that came without warning. Her condition rapidly escalated, with daily life-threatening episodes lasting for nearly three weeks. Her parents were devastated, struggling with fear and uncertainty each day. Looking back, Wenwen’s mother recalls those dark days with gratitude and pride—thankful for the love and support they received, and especially for the compassionate care provided by the team at Lu Daopei Hospital.
When initial treatments proved insufficient to cure her leukemia, Wenwen’s family sought further options and were eventually recommended Lu Daopei Hospital by other patients. Despite the unknowns and difficult decisions ahead, they began their journey from Xinjiang to Hebei in search of hope. Wenwen’s mother describes their immense relief and gratitude: “Choosing Lu Daopei Hospital was the best decision we could have made. Without this hospital and Dr. Zhou Jiarui, we may not be together today.”
Upon arrival, Wenwen was admitted immediately, and the medical team, led by Dr. Zhou Jiarui, provided exceptional care, helping the family understand the complexities of leukemia while instilling them with courage and hope. Through several rounds of chemotherapy and a half-matched transplant from her father, Wenwen’s path to recovery began. Though challenging, the transplant was successful, and despite complications like viral infections and liver GVHD, the hospital’s team managed her treatment effectively.
Now, seven years post-transplant, Wenwen has fully resumed her daily life and studies. She has blossomed into a confident young woman and is preparing for a significant milestone in her life: the national college entrance examination in June.
Reflecting on their journey, Wenwen’s mother shares two profound lessons: “Love creates miracles, and persistence brings hope.” She emphasizes that the unwavering love of family and the dedication of healthcare professionals are crucial in helping patients find the strength to persevere. Leukemia Treatment can be a long and challenging process, but with perseverance, hope remains.
Today, Wenwen’s story stands as an inspiration for other families facing similar battles. “To all the families walking this path, know that winter will pass, and spring will arrive. We are cheering for you and wishing for peace and health for all.”
