Ovarian cancer-03

Patient: Ms. K

Gender: Female
Age: 55

Nationality: Norwegian

Diagnosis: Ovarian cancer

Ms. K, a 55-year-old woman with a relatively affluent background settled abroad, unexpectedly faced cancer. Three years ago, she experienced discomfort and bloating in her lower abdomen, accompanied by decreased appetite. Upon examination at a foreign hospital, she was diagnosed with stage IV ovarian cancer. Due to the advanced stage and multiple tumors found upon opening the abdomen, surgical removal was not feasible, leaving chemotherapy as the only option.

Post-surgery, the tumor marker CA125 in her serum increased from 1800 U/mL to over 5000 U/mL. Continued chemotherapy showed minimal effectiveness, with CA125 rising again to over 8000 U/mL six months later. Doctors informed her family that her remaining time was limited and advised them to prepare mentally. Despite learning the severity of her condition, Ms. K did not show signs of despair. Before giving up hope, she wanted to try immunotherapy.

Last year, Ms. K underwent her first surgery for sampling. After two months of ex vivo expansion, TILs were reinfused into her body. She experienced fever on the day of infusion, which subsided by the following day, and she felt much better overall. Now, after six months of treatment, her CA125 levels have consistently remained below 18 U/mL. PET-CT imaging comparisons show that out of the original 24 metastatic tumors throughout her body, only one remains. In March of this year, Ms. K underwent a second surgery for sampling.
