Annual Clinical Blood Management and Transfusion Technology Training Held at Yanda Ludaopei Hospital

On July 9, 2024, the Sanhe City Clinical Blood Quality Management and Control Center hosted the 2024 Annual Training for Clinical Blood Management and Transfusion Technology at Hebei Yanda Ludaopei Hospital. This event aimed to improve clinical blood management, enhance transfusion techniques, and ensure the safety of clinical blood use.

Over 100 participants, including healthcare professionals from various medical institutions such as Sanhe City Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, Sanhe Yanjing Maternity Hospital, JD American Hospital, Hebei Yanda Hospital, Yan Jiao Second and Third Hospitals, Dongshan Hospital, Yan Jiao Fuhe First Hospital, Sanhe City Hospital, and Sanhe Maternal and Child Health Hospital, attended the training session. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Zhou Jing, Director of the Transfusion Department at Ludaopei Hospital and Chairman of the Sanhe City Clinical Blood Quality Control Center.

Dr. Lu Peihua, Executive Director of Ludaopei Hospital, delivered the opening speech, expressing gratitude to government authorities and fellow medical institutions for their support in clinical blood management. Highlighting the significance of blood donations, Dr. Lu noted that during the 20th World Blood Donor Day on June 14, Ludaopei Hospital employees, patients' families, and community members donated 109 units of platelets and 16,700 ml of whole blood.

Mr. Wang Jinyu, Head of the Medical Administration Section of the Sanhe City Health Bureau, addressed the attendees via video, emphasizing the importance of transfusion safety, the monitoring and reporting of transfusion reactions, and compliance with clinical blood use guidelines. He also noted that transfusion reaction monitoring and emergency handling are critical aspects of clinical transfusion work and essential for hospital evaluations and inspections.

Dr. Zhang Gailing, Deputy Chief Physician of the Hematology Department at Hebei Yanda Ludaopei Hospital, presented on the identification, management, and reporting of transfusion reactions. Dr. Zhang's session covered various types of transfusion reactions, their management protocols, and practical experiences from Ludaopei Hospital. Additionally, Mr. Jiang Wenyao, a Laboratory Technician in the Transfusion Department, discussed the application of medical quality management tools in transfusion work, highlighting relevant regulations, PDSA reporting, and extended benefits.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Zhou Jing emphasized the importance of correctly and rationally using blood to minimize or effectively reduce the occurrence of transfusion reactions. She noted that in recent years, China has placed great importance on managing transfusion reactions, with requirements for their monitoring in hospital evaluations and national, provincial, and municipal clinical blood use reports.

The annual training provides a platform for learning, experience sharing, and enhancing safety and responsibility awareness among clinical blood-related personnel. It plays a positive role in promoting the standardization and scientific development of clinical blood management in Sanhe City, ensuring patient safety, and improving the quality of medical services.

Looking ahead, the Sanhe City Clinical Blood Quality Management and Control Center will continue to strengthen the institutional and capability development of clinical blood management, striving to elevate the overall level of clinical blood management in the city and contribute to the healthy development of Sanhe City's healthcare sector.
